Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I think I want to breastfeed, but I'm kind of nervous about it. Is this book for me?
A: Absolutely! This book was designed for you. If you're interested in breastfeeding then you deserve to have as much information about it as possible.
Q: I plan to exclusively formula feed. Does your book give equal time to formula feeding?
A: No, this book is a guide to the breastfeeding experience. All discussions about formula feeding are framed in the context of breastfeeding. If you do not have an interest in breastfeeding or a plan to breastfeed then you would not find this book useful.
Q: All this breastfeeding and formula feeding stuff is so controversial. How do you address the debate in your book? Do you have a position or some sort of political agenda in mind?
A: This book is about breastfeeding, so it is naturally written from a pro-breastfeeding angle. That being said, there is no political agenda intended. It is written with the main purpose of helping women who plan to breastfeed achieve their own breastfeeding goals.
Q: What was your inspiration for writing this book?
A: I wanted to put together a comprehensive, modern breastfeeding guide based on medical facts. Mothers are often torn in different directions when they look at what other mothers say about breastfeeding and what the medical community says about breastfeeding. As a breastfeeding mother and physician I can synthesize those two worlds, making it possible for women to find the bridge between what's medically accurate and what's practical.
Q: I'm very interested in natural childbirth and natural parenting along with breastfeeding. Does your book fit with my philosophies? Do you cover these topics in your book?
A: Parents who are interested in natural parenting practices naturally gravitate toward breastfeeding as it melds well with their ideals. If you are a natural parenting enthusiast then you will absolutely enjoy and benefit from this book. It will help you understand breastfeeding and achieve your breastfeeding goals. However, this book is more narrowly focused on breastfeeding rather than natural parenting in general. Therefore, you will find that topics such as natural childbirth and natural parenting are not covered.
Q: I'd like to breastfeed, but I don't think that natural parenting or attachment parenting is something that will work for me and my family. Will I still be able to relate to the topics in your book?
A: This book is all about breastfeeding. You don't have to be committed to natural parenting or attachment parenting in order to breastfeed. As long as you are interested in learning about breastfeeding you will be able to easily relate to the topics in this book.
Q: Is this book available as an ebook?
A: No, there is no ebook edition available at this time. However, starting in July of 2015 we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign to get the ebook produced.
Q: I see that this is a book on a scientific topic written by a doctor. Is is going to be very technical and hard to read like a medical textbook?
A: This book is written with a lay (non-medical) audience in mind. It is easy to read and doesn't require prior medical training or expertise in order to understand it.
